Carrying forward the grantmaking legacy first established through The NRA Foundation, the 1791 Foundation provides grants to qualified nonprofit organizations advancing firearm safety, education, training, conservation, and marksmanship programs. Since 1990, more than $509 million has been awarded through over 65,000 grants nationwide.
Our funding supports programs at both the national and local level, from youth shooting sports and law enforcement training to conservation and competitive marksmanship. If your organization is working to expand access, build skills, or carry these traditions forward, we encourage you to explore applying.
Strengthening the Second Amendment
- Be a recognized nonprofit organization (501(c)(3) or equivalent)
- Demonstrate clear alignment with 1791 Foundation priorities
- Present a defined program, project, or funding need with measurable impact

We invest in the next generation by supporting programs that introduce young people to responsible firearm use and the traditions of hunting and the shooting sports, while instilling a strong, lifelong appreciation for the freedoms protected by the Second Amendment. Through funding for training, equipment, and educational initiatives, we help build confidence, discipline, and a deep respect for America’s outdoor heritage.
Youth Programs
We provide critical support to law enforcement agencies and first responders by funding advanced firearms training, safety programs, and essential equipment. These investments help ensure officers are prepared, proficient, and equipped to protect and serve their communities, upholding public safety while reinforcing the responsible exercise of Second Amendment freedoms.
Law Enforcement
We support shooting sports at all levels - from local clubs to national competitions - by funding equipment, range improvements, and athlete development programs. These grants help foster skill, discipline, and sportsmanship. This includes support for organizations like USA Shooting, helping provide athletes with access to world-class training, coaching, and competition opportunities.
Competitive Shooting Sports
We fund initiatives that protect wildlife habitats, promote responsible land stewardship, and preserve America’s hunting heritage and access. By supporting conservation-focused organizations and programs, we help ensure that outdoor traditions - and the Second Amendment freedoms that make them possible - are sustained and passed on to future generations.

HOW TO APPLY
The 1791 Foundation awards grants to organizations advancing firearm safety and education, youth and competitive shooting sports, hunting and conservation, law enforcement training, and Second Amendment education. If your organization is a recognized 501(c)(3) or an equivalent government entity with a project that supports one of our core mission areas, we invite you to begin the process.
Start by reviewing our Grant Guidelines & Policies to confirm your eligibility and understand what we fund, the documentation we require, and our reporting expectations.
