Strong institutions do not stand still. They evolve with purpose, build on what works, and sharpen their focus for what comes next.
That is why the NRA Foundation became the 1791 Foundation.
This transition reflects more than a name change. Instead, it represents a renewed commitment to clarity, independence, stewardship, and long-term impact. The mission continues, but the Foundation now carries it forward with a sharper focus and a stronger foundation for the future.
The decision to become the 1791 Foundation reflects a purposeful evolution. For decades, the NRA Foundation supported programs that strengthened firearm education, training, conservation, competitive shooting, and community engagement across the country. That work mattered then, and it continues to matter now.
However, this new chapter allows the Foundation to move forward with greater clarity. As the 1791 Foundation, the organization can direct its resources with even more precision, support programs with measurable impact, and communicate its purpose in a way that feels clear, focused, and built for the future.
The name 1791 is intentional.
In 1791, the Bill of Rights was ratified, enshrining fundamental freedoms that continue to shape the nation. Within that history, the Second Amendment plays a central role in preserving liberties that require both protection and participation.
Therefore, the name 1791 serves as a reminder of when this work began and why it still matters today.
At the same time, the name points forward. It signals a commitment to carry those principles into the future with discipline, focus, and purpose.
For decades, the NRA Foundation helped fund programs that strengthened firearm education, safety, training, conservation, and community engagement across the country.
Through that support, new generations discovered shooting sports. Individuals and organizations gained access to education and training. Conservation efforts received meaningful investment. In addition, communities benefited from programs that helped preserve the infrastructure behind a freedom that depends on active participation.
That legacy remains important. More importantly, it remains intact.
The 1791 Foundation does not walk away from that history. Instead, it builds on it.
The move to the 1791 Foundation is about clarity, focus, and long-term strength.
This next chapter allows the Foundation to operate with greater independence, disciplined stewardship, a clear forward-looking mission, newfound efficiencies, and low overhead so more dollars can flow directly to the mission. As a result, every decision can align more directly with the Foundation’s core purpose.
The 1791 Foundation can now focus its resources on programs that demonstrate real impact. It can also strengthen accountability, build long-term partnerships, and ensure that every investment supports work that lasts.
This is not a departure from the mission. Rather, it is a refinement of how the Foundation carries that mission forward.
Although the name has changed, the work itself remains consistent.
The 1791 Foundation continues to invest in education and training programs, youth engagement, competitive shooting, conservation, outdoor heritage, range development, and Second Amendment conservation and legal education. These pillars have always defined the Foundation’s impact, and they will continue to guide its work moving forward.
Because of that, supporters can feel confident that the mission remains grounded in proven results.
With renewed focus comes greater opportunity.
The 1791 Foundation can expand support for high-impact programs, strengthen transparency, and build partnerships that sustain this work well into the future. Additionally, the Foundation can continue investing where the need is clear, the outcomes are measurable, and the long-term value is strong.
Every decision follows a simple principle: invest where it matters most and make sure those investments endure.
The fact that the NRA Foundation became the 1791 Foundation does not redefine the mission. Instead, it strengthens the foundation behind it.
The work continues with proven impact, clear priorities, and a commitment to what comes next.
For those who have supported this mission over the years, that commitment remains unchanged. In fact, we are bigger and better with lower overhead and more dollars going directly to the mission.
For those just learning about it, there has never been a better time to be part of it.
Stand with us. Help build something that endures.
